ALWAYS GREENER

Philip Sharkey sees Stu shock Eubank offspring Wilson

A FIVE-FIGHT card is unusual for a dinner show, yet that is what Mickey Helliet served guests at the Mayfair Sporting Club’s annual Burns Night charity event at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel.

Devizes’ “Little Canelo” Stu Greener shocked favoured Nathanael Wilson in front of family member Chris Eubank Jnr.

The Croydon progeny of Eubank Snr threw everything into the first round, but found himself spent by the second. The Wiltshire superlightweight staggered him, then forced referee Jeff Hinds to step in at 1-51 of the third.

A hyped-up Qasim Hussain

celebrated his 100th defeat by jokingly calling out Eubank Jnr as he left the ring. The Sheffield trier had just conceded a 40-36 (referee Hinds) verdict to Dublin debutant Ryan O’rourke.

Ryan stayed behind his left jab for the first two rounds before switching to southpaw.

The same score was awarded to New Cross light-heavy Andre Sterling by Mr Hinds as he warmed up for his March date with Dan Azeez, Middleton’s Darryl Sharp providing a good test.

Norwich’s Rylan Charlton and Des Newton were involved in a crowd-pleasing four, after which third man Lee Every led the crowd in appreciative applause, clocking 40-37 in Charlton’s favour. Devonian Des had his legs stiffened in the third and took heavy shots, but came storming back.

Eastbourne’s Scott Hillman seems impervious to head shots, so Parisian switch-hitter Hermann Umande threw a right hand to Hillman’s lower ribs that left him sitting on the bottom rope in some pain. Mr Every registered a stoppage at 1-19 of the fourth and last round.

THE VERDICT Greener notches an unlikely victory, while O’rourke gets his pro career off to a promising start.
