MARCHING ON

Not even Kalinovskij’s elbow can derail Nihell, reports Philip Sharkey

FORMER England Elite amateur champion

Chezerae Nihell notched a conclusive 60-55 victory for referee Lee Cook over Lithuania’s

Dimitrij Kalinovskij on a Shamrock Promotions bill at Princes Hall.

The Aldershot-domiciled switch-hitter went through the gears, growing stronger as the rounds went on. However, a cut appeared over his left eye courtesy of a stray Kalinovskij elbow during the penultimate round – the clumsy visitor is often guilty of sticking his elbows out when in defensive mode. A second six-rounder saw Farnborough’s

George Lamport dance his way to victory, switching from front to back foot with ease, leaving Warminster’s reliable Paul Cummings with a bloody nose, but generally untroubled. Referee Kieran Mccann’s card read 60-54.

Mr Mccann showed fleetness of foot himself as he dived between Iver’s Naylor

Ball and Shaun Duffy after only 10 seconds of action, the Birmingham big fella unconscious from a booming left. Thankfully he responded well after receiving oxygen.

Frimley’s Sam Horsfall impressed, running out a 40-36 winner for arbiter Cook. Using his jab, Horsfall held ring centre and threw his power shots, Chessington journeyman

Richard Harrison taking all with a shake of

his head. Joe-louis D’santos had an eventful debut. Shaken by Brockley’s Shaun Watt in the first when a wound opened on his cheek, the Woking super-middle then came off on the wrong end of an accidental clash of heads, blood flowing copiously from his left brow. Mr Cook waved it off in the interval at the end of the third, D’santos being handed a 30-28 technical decision. Two boxers grabbed 40-37 victories – Fleet’s Aaron Collins over Brierley Hill’s MJ Hall (Mr Cook) and Bournemouth’s Pete Nurdin against Trafford’s Scott Williams (Mr Mccann).
