Weights divisions are being brought into line with international boxing

-

THIS year England Boxing is bringing the weight divisions for competition in the UK into line with the international governing, IBA’S new weight categories.

As of the beginning of 2022 the weights for Youth and Senior boxers in championships are now as follows:

Female: 48kgs, 50kgs, 52kgs, 54kgs, 57kgs, 60kgs, 63kgs, 66kgs, 70kgs, 75kgs, 81kgs and 81&kgs. Male: 48kgs, 51kgs, 54kgs, 57kgs, 60kgs, 63.5kgs, 67kgs, 71kgs, 75kgs, 80kgs, 86kgs, 92kgs and 92&kg.

Amateur boxing in England is not affected by the suspension of competition that the British Boxing Board of Control has instituted for professional boxing. England Boxing confirmed that amateur boxing activity under its jurisdiction, including competitions and club shows, can continue as planned.

“However, clubs should note that government regulations and advice will continue to be monitored closely and this position could change rapidly,” England Boxing stated. “Clubs are reminded that they should follow the recommended government, England Boxing and venue regulations and guidelines and take into consideration the safety implications for all concerned, including any spectators present.

“They should also take into account the potential costs and loss of income should bouts or shows not be able to go ahead because of Covid-19 infections.”

England Boxing’s first national competition will be the Youth championships. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will take place at the Barnsley Metrodome on February 11, 12 and 13.

The semi-finals and the finals of the Junior championships have been set for March 27 and 28 at the Guildford Spectrum.
