FUND FOR STEPHEN

With Stephen Mcmullan hospitalised after the Ulster Elite finals, his family are raising money for his on going treatment

-

THE family of Stephen Mcmullan have launched a fundraising campaign to support his recovery.

Mcmullan boxed in the Ulster Elite final in December. He didn’t require medial attention during the bout but fell ill at home and was later admitted to the Royal Victory Hospital.

He suffered from a stroke and was put into an induced coma. He has been discharged from ICU but remains in hospital receiving ongoing care and support.

His family are raising money for his continuing needs once he is discharged. They have set up a Justgiving page for him and already over £6,000 has been donated. “Stephen has fought so hard to be here with us today and continues to fight strong, he remains very sick and has been left with life changing injuries,” reads the statement on the page.

“All we want as a family is to give Stephen the best shot at life and for him to have the best quality of life to the best of his ability. For Stephen to be able to do this he is going to require intensive support, therapy and equipment which is a massive burden financially on the family as Stephen was the breadwinner. We just want to give back to him as much as he gave us in life. We want to give him as much independence as possible and cannot do this alone, so we would like to ask for as much help as possible to make his journey a positive life changing one.

“Stephen will require intensive rehabilitation, an Eyegaze Computer System to enable him to communicate with others amongst other ongoing support.

“Any funds not used towards Stephen’s recovery will be donated to ICU and the stroke ward in The Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.”

The Ulster Boxing Council will continue to provide support to Stephen, his family and his club during this period.
