PLANT CITY, USA JIMMY KELLY, 26-2 (10), scores an upset majority decision victory over Kazakhstan’s unbeaten middleweight KANAT ISLAM, 28-1 (22). This was Islam’s first fight for a year and it showed. Kelly went into an early lead outboxing and outscoring a slow Islam, who just could not find the range. Islam kept rolling forward but did not trouble Kelly until the last three rounds, when Islam’s pressure let him work inside but by then Kelly already had the win in the bag with the scores of 97-93 and 96-94 for Kelly and 95-95 looking too generous to Islam. In welterweight matches Argentinian JONATHAN ENIZ, 28-171,1NC (11), dropped MARK REYES, 14-2 (12), in the second round and went on to take a unanimous verdict at 95-94 twice and 96-93. PETER DOBSON, 15-0 (9), outboxed limited Mexican JOSE BORREGO, 19-3 (16), taking the decision 100-90, 98-92 and 97-93 on the cards.

LAS VEGAS, USA Unheralded Argentinian FERNANDO MARTÍNEZ, 14-0 (8), springs a major upset as he wins a wide unanimous decision over JERWIN ANCAJAS, 33-22 (22), after 12 rounds of total war. From the first bell Martínez was surging forward throwing hooks and uppercuts and forcing Ancajas to stand and trade punches. Ancajas fought hard every inch of the way but he just could not match the relentless pace set by Martínez and was unable to use his longer reach and better skills. Martínez hardly threw a single jab; he just walked in launching hooks and uppercuts while taking some hits to get inside. He pumped out punches with an exhausted Ancajas having to fight hard to make it to the final bell. Martínez took the decision on scores of 118-110 twice and 117111. Ancajas loses his alphabet superflyweight belt on his 10th defence. There was also an upset in the superfeatherweight fight between Dominican HECTOR GARCIA, 15-0,3NC (10), and CHRIS COLBERT, 16-1 (6). Like Martínez, Garcia bulldozed his way to victory. He
