Islington and guests beat Jersey Leonis in a team match. Reggie Hagland describes the show

THE third annual team match between Jersey Leonis (JL) and Islington Boxing Club took place on February 19 in Jersey.

Islington’s Jake Bowness (65kgs), debuted for the club against Lawrence Gillat (Jersey Leonis). Bowness found his range and put Islington one up with a split decision win.

17-year-old Youth boxer Eddie Nunn (60kgs), from Croydon ABC, started well, but Luc Langlois (JL) took a split decision victory and levelled the team match score.

Marcus Magloire (Guernsey – guesting for Jersey) defeated Emmanuel Bernardo (Islington, 64kgs) via unanimous decision.

In the first of three rematches on the bill, Charlie Corbel (JL) defeated Joshua Nsimba (White Hart Lane BA, 62kgs) via unanimous decision.

The team captain for the weekend, Tevin Thompson (Islington, 75kgs) won a unanimous decision against Ciaran Croke (JL). TJ Lynch (Islington, 73kgs) levelled the team match score. He dominated from the off against Cristavo Rodrigues (JL). The referee rightly stopped the bout shortly after the second round had begun.

The hosts took the lead as unbeaten Leanne Le Feuvre (JL) defeated Sharmane Barrett at 58kgs. Leanne won the contest over three-twos.

Viv Parsons (Afewee ABC, 58.5kgs) boxed in her first senior contest against Cali Bushell (JL) over three-threes. Parsons won a split decision.

Mitchell Asare (White Hart Lane) gained a split decision win against Tom Frame (JL) over three-threes.

The final rematch saw Hasan Abu (Earlsfield ABC, 53kgs) defeat Tom Teers (Guernsey, guesting for Jersey) over three-threes. Abu won via unanimous decision, winning the team match with one bout to spare.

The performanc­e of the night was Giorgio Visioli (Repton ABC, 62kgs) who outclassed Harry Bertram (JL) in a three-threes match. Visioli gave his opponent a standing count in the first and second rounds, the referee had seen enough, ending it early in the last round.

The Islington team [ pictured] finished as 7-4 winners.
