Six home distance winners in Kent reports Andy Whittle
SHEERNESS southpaw Martin Mcdonagh
proved too much for Gelsa-based Mexican Christian Lopez Flores in the bill topper on what proved a productive night for the home corner at Maidstone Leisure Centre with Chas Coakley scoring him a 60-54 six-round winner.
The visitor doesn’t travel particularly well. His 10 previous ‘away’ outings have all ended in defeat. He’s back out again this weekend in another six against improving Michael Gomez Jnr at Oldham.
Rainham lightweight Brooklyn Tilley handed Stockport veteran Jamie Quinn the 125th loss of his paid career, referee Chas Coakley adjudging him a 39-37 winner at the completion of 12 minutes, while there was a victory by the exact same score for one-fight Sittingbourne novice Tyrone King
who proved too much for Leicestershire’s George Rogers in a bout handled by Lee Every. Rogers is very much in demand by matchmakers struggling to fill the away corner.
There was a debut for Faversham middleweight Alexandre Branson-cole,
the Kent town’s first pro in over 60 years, and he proved too much for another Spain-based Mexican Fernando Valencia who appears in British rings on a regular basis, where he is beaten equally regularly. This one, refereed by Lee Every, finished 40-36 to the new start.
Local pair Oliver Lawrence and Jimmy Peckham had both banked a victory apiece going into their respective fourround matches against Nicaraguan Berman Sanchez (another Spain-domiciled operator) and Westbrook’s Ricky Leach and there was cause for celebration for each as both eased to 40-36 victories.
Slik Rik hasn’t tasted victory in his last 40 outings and seldom looked like bucking the trend in a bout overseen by trialist Sean Mcavoy and scored from ringside by Lee Every, while 38-year-old Sanchez, with Chas Coakley doing the honours, was beaten here for the eighth successive time.
