WHOLE SHOW

SEASONED pro Sam Eggington showed what world-class fighters are all about on Scott Murray’s debut promotion at the Excelsior Sporting Club.

The Birmingham middleweight walked down Liverpool’s James Mccarthy in the six-round main event, ignoring some good left-hook counters off the ropes to end it in the fourth.

Body shots did the damage: a left hook dropped Mccarthy near the end of the third, a delay for a spilt gumshield saving the Scouser. But there was no let-off in the next as a right underneath dropped Mccarthy again.

It could have been stopped by referee Pete Mccormack when he got up, which would have spared Mccarthy a vicious left hook to the head that dropped him heavily by the ropes again. He took some time to recover. Time of the stoppage was 1-52.

Unbeaten Brummie Nyall Berry looked like he might stop Khvicha Gigolashvili in the early rounds but settled for a landslide 60-54 six-round points win from referee Mccormack, who officiated throughout.

Berry battered his rival up and down but the gutsy Georgian was going nowhere.

Birmingham’s former amateur star Niall Farrell, whose supporters bought up nine tables at this packed dinner show, used his speed and long arms to outwork and outpoint Lithuanian veteran Simas Volosinas over four rounds by 40-46. There was never a doubt as to the winner on his debut.
