out Hosea Burton in seven bloodsplattered rounds. One judge had Burton up by two points after six and the others had it level at the time of the stoppage.

The taller boxer by three inches at 6ft 4ins, Burton, the former British lightheavyweight champion, looked on his way to victory late in the fourth.

Ringsiders were splashed with blood from Zorro’s nose as Burton drilled him with long left-rights in a neutral corner. There was no big drive from Burton in the fifth and the round was similar to most of the others, with little between them.

Zorro landed a surprising number of jabs to bloody Burton’s nose and Burton was most effective when he stepped in behind his punches.

Zorro was first to the jab again in the seventh and followed it with a right to knock Burton into the ropes. The next punch Zorro landed was a left hook and it took a lot out of Burton. He was dazed and looked to grab.

Zorro flung him to the floor and within seconds of the fight restarting, Burton was back on the ropes, shaping to throw a left hook.

He held the punch back, leaving his left glove by his waist, and Zorro saw his chance. He stepped in and put everything into a right hand aimed at Burton’s jaw. The punch found its target, flinging Burton onto his back. Referee Marcus Mcdonnell waved the count off at ‘three’ after coach Joe Gallagher scrambled into the ring. Time was 1-28.

Chatham southpaw Karol Itauma eased back from the loss to Maderna by outpointing 40-year-old Frenchman

Khalid Graidia over eight, referee Sean Mcavoy scoring 79-72.

Itauma took a right in the opening 30 seconds and looked unsettled briefly late in the third after Graidia jumped into range and let his hands go, but other than that, Itauma dominated with his jab-and-counter boxing.

Southampton talent Ryan Garner

made an impressive return after 10 months out, knocking out Eduardo Valverde in the second of a scheduled six. Both were straight down to business with Garner giving more than he took from Spanish-based Nicaraguan in a fastpaced opener before dropping him twice with quality body shots in the second. Mr Bates counted him out after 49 seconds.

Streatham southpaw Chris Bourke

pulled away in the second half of his six-rounder against willing Nicaraguan

Kevin Trana to win 58-56 for Mr Mcavoy, while Sean Noakes and

Aloys Junior won early in scheduled six-rounders. Noakes took 42 seconds to stop Nicaraguan southpaw Robin Zamora, unravelling him with a right before punching him to his knees where Mr Bates counted him out.

The same official also counted out Croatia’s Borna Grcic after Junior laid him out with a clean left hook to the chin, showing impressive composure to find the punch while Grcic was firing his fists at him. Time was 27 seconds. Junior also had him down in the first with a jab.

Michal Soczynski, the Pole who beat Junior on his debut, forced Israel Duffus to retire after four of six. He dropped the American late in the fourth with a left hook. Mr Mcavoy refereed.

York’s George Davey won all six rounds against Polish southpaw Bartosz Glowacki. Mr Bates refereed.
