ALMOST a year to the day since Steve Wood’s VIP Promotions last visited the Winter Gardens they returned with what, in the main, was a youth versus experience show. At its culmination, all eight home punchers had triumphed over the distance.

Tyrone Bowen-price in against Canning Town-based Ukrainian Mykhailo Sovtus who, while not winning many, is durable in the extreme. He comes to have a go and as such provides a valuable learning opportunity for up-and-comers. Bowenprice, who took the 58-56 decision of Liverpool referee Mark Lyson at the finish, being the latest to benefit.

Blackpool debutant, heavyweight Luis Wright, proved too much for Swindon’s much heavier Phil Williams who was having his 50th paid bout. The six-footer being adjudged a 40-37 winner by Mr Kirkpatrick who scored from ringside for trialist David Mulholland. There was a rare victory, his second in 19 outings, for another hometown heavyweight Jake Darnell who edged out Arbroath’s Fijian-born Joe Nakavulevu 39-38 for scoring judge Kirkpatrick.
