LIMEHOUSE Boxing Academy hosted a charity dinner show at the splendid Grand Connaught Rooms, with a Manchester Select providing the opposition. Guests including former John Conteh and Anthony Crolla saw Limehouse win the team match 4-3, while the visitors received the Best Boxer prize for Joe Farrugia.

The youngster from the Magic Hatton club in Bredbury won a 3-2 split over Arafat Salom in the evening’s last bout, a senior 62kgs battle.

Circling with his left hand low, Farrugia started steadily as Salom stayed busy. But Farrugia got down to work in round two and enjoyed his most productive spell in the last, when Salom’s bloody nose needed wiping.

The show’s only 3x3s (all other bouts were 3x2s) saw an impressive display from Gabriel Passelle, with Hoxton’s Lion club but guesting for Limehouse. Solidly built at 72kgs, he dished out a heavy body bombardment as he unanimously outscored taller Cameron Mcdonald (Fox), who just couldn’t keep him off.

Mcdonald took a standing eight in each round, and although

Passelle lost a point for a low blow in the last, he was by then well ahead.

In a girls youth 53kgs bout, southpaw Millie Fairfax (Titans) was too good for gritty Grace Hutchison of Limehouse. Fairfax used clean straight shots to force a count in the first and another in the last en route to a unanimous victory.

Limehouse made a good start, with Mustapha Jarjue

unanimously outpointing Spicer Cameron (Moss Side) in the 72kgs senior showopener. Jarjue was simply too strong.

The hosts also won the next contest, although it was much tighter as Callum Halford edged Anthony Sheridan (Fox) 3-2 in a youth 67kgs encounter. Sheridan tried to get inside, but taller Halford used his reach well.

A high-energy senior affair at 56kgs saw Limehouse’s Alim Hussain

win a 4-1 split over guesting Foley boxer Matthew Sherley, who was warned for a low head in the last. A right-hander had sent Hussain’s gumshield flying spectacularly in round two.

In a senior 62kgs bout, Moss Side southpaw Treasure Chai picked up the pace from round two and landed left crosses to nick a 3-2 verdict over Limehouse’s Roan Chima.
