Giving a voice to representatives of small businesses in our area

- Paul Golder

WE’RE always trying to support small business initiatives here at Phoenix FM.

We know how hard it is for local businesses to get a foothold locally, especially when the long-established big boys can benefit from economies of scale to undercut them.

It’s a situation that, as a small community radio station, we sympathise with a lot!

Every month we have representatives of Essex Business Partnerships in the studio.

The EBP is a chamber of commerce-style organisation, aiming to create a feeling of community amongst its members to create informal but strong and long-lasting relationships.

CEO Sally Sykes visits Jo Bailey’s Drive show every month and this month brought two businesses.

Firstly we spoke on air to Monica Cooper and Duncan Moore from Let’s Get Out, an outwards bound company. Their main aim is getting young people outside, running many projects including Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.

Sally also brought Steve Chilton from Brentwood’s ERB Insurance, a much more traditional business, based in The Old House, a building that has been a central hub in our community for generations.

And Drive isn’t the only place where you can hear local business news - Nicki Treffers has recently rejoined the station, with her Modern Essex Girl show talking to small business owners every Tuesday at 6pm.

You can hear the interviews again at phoenixfm.com and find out more about Essex Business Partnerships at essexbusinesspartnerships.org.uk.
