Havering take second place

HAVERING’S Under 17 and Under 20 squad got their season off to a solid great start, finishing second at a wet and cold Tooting Bec track on Sunday.

The Under 17 Men’s squad had six wins and six second places. Freddie Rowe front ran the 1500m for victory and returned to do the same on his steeplecha­se victory and Findlay McLaren eased to an 800m win.

Tobias Samuel won the long jump and Freddie Hatcher the B shot, partnered by Anthony Odumosu who was second in both events.

Emmanuel Asirifi-Otchere was a good runner-up in the 200m as was Simeon Barker in the sprint hurdles, and Sam Burdett and Freddie Hatcher were second in both javelin strings.

The 4x400m relay quartet of Barker, McLaren, Freddie Rowe and Asirifi-Otchere ended the match with victory.

The Under 17 Women’s team scored solidly throughout, with five wins and six second places.

Maggie Smith won the high jump and was second in both the sprint and the 300m hurdles events, while Amy Mansell had wins in both the 300m hurdles B and shot B events and was second in the long jump.

Oma Nwapa won the B high jump and was second in the B long jump and hurdles. Faye Fearon won the B javelin and Scarlett Woods was third in the A javelin, and added runners up in her steeplecha­se debut, while Grace Tilson was third in the B 300m.

The small Under 20 Women’s team had just one win as Commonweal­th Youth Games winner Steph Okoro took the 400m and there were five second places.

Stephanie Osuala was second in the B 200m, as Cassie Campbell was third in the A 200m and second in the B 100m. Precious Fagbadegun, Abi Swan and

Charlotte Evans added runners up points in the long jump, 800m and 1500m, and Katie Ennis was third in the shot. The sprint relay squad of Fagbadegun, Swan, Stephanie Osuala and Campbell were also second.

The Under 20 Men were small in number and Noah Harriott’s second place in the shot was their best result.

Medway & Maidstone emerged victorious in the first of the threematch series which sees the teams meet again at Brighton on Sunday May 26.
