Lebeqs start Fry Club Cup defence in style

LEBEQS Tavern Courage took the first step towards retaining the Fry Club Cup with a 4-1 victory against De Veys for the new management team of Aaron Wilson and Twaine Plummer, whose brother Tristan bagged a brace for the Bristol Sunday League champions.

Also on the mark for the holders were Dominic Holver and Lewis Britton, whose opponents in the second round on Thursday will be Nicholas Wanderers, 3-1 winners against Oldland Abbotonian­s.

Wanderers fell behind in the first half but bounced back with goals from Aaron Mansfield, Scott Andoniou and Billy Arnold to the delight of manager Kevin Pollard.

Brislingto­n made light of the bone-hard conditions at Somerdale with a 4-1 victory against Sneyd Park in the first round of the Fry Club Cup.

The Downs League champions were sunk by strikes from Courtney Charles, Kai England, Jason Worlock and John Miles for Brislingto­n.

Old Sodbury failed to reply to a first half double from Stuart Wilson for Highridge, whose defence stood firm under pressure after the break to record a 2-0 success.

Ashton and Backwell missed two late spot-kicks in a 6-5 penalty shootout defeat by Keynsham Town, following a 2-2 draw.
