Parks awarded Green Flag status... but only one in city

-

THE list of Green Flag parks around the UK has been revealed. There is just one in Bristol, with seven others locally.

Green Flag Awards are handed out to recognise high-quality green spaces across the country.

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “It has been a record-breaking year for Green Flag Awards, and it’s fantastic to see such a diverse range of locations have been recognised. We are proud to have so many wonderful green spaces in the UK for people to experience, and encourage the public to head outdoors, explore their local area and find even more unexpected green spaces they can enjoy.”

The only Bristol green space awarded Green Flag status is the University of Bristol’s main campus in Clifton ( above).

Keynsham Memorial Park was among the Bath & North East Somerset winners.

Bristol City Council hasn’t entered its sites for Green Flags since 2013, according to the Friends of Troopers Hill, a site that formerly held the status.

Sites in North Somerset:

» Portishead Lake

» Prince Consort Gardens, Westonsuper-Mare
