Rock project students raise the roof

-

REAL-life schools of rock from across North Somerset raised the roof when more than 100 young musicians had the audience on its feet at their endof-year gig.

Students from the junior and senior sessions of The Rock Project North Somerset performed before two separate packed houses at the Backwell Theatre. Aged just seven through to 18, the young musicians attend weekly sessions in Nailsea, Clevedon, Ashton and Portishead where they learn guitar, bass, singing or drums from professional musicians.

Andy Collins, who runs The Rock Project North Somerset, said: “Our students absolutely blew the audiences away with their performances and it was a huge moment in their young lives.

“Being on stage in a packed theatre with the lights and effects all in place, provided them with the atmosphere for a real rock gig.

“They all worked incredibly hard on their set lists and the final showcase proved just how talented the students are and how well they’ve progressed since joining The Rock Project”.

The two concerts featured performances of more than 50 songs made famous by acts like Deep Purple, Guns ’n’ Roses and Nirvana.
