Teenager arrested ‘Intruder’ stabbed boy in school grounds

AMAJOR police investigat­ion is underway in Bristol after a teenage boy was stabbed and seriously injured at his school – allegedly by another teenager who managed to get into the school grounds.

The 14-year-old boy is in a stable condition in hospital after he was stabbed at the school in Fishponds.

The teenager, who has not been named, was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable, and not life-threatenin­g or life-changing. The incident happened at the St Matthias Park academy, a pupil referral unit in Alexandra Park in Fishponds.

A spokespers­on for Avon and Somerset police said another teenager was arrested, hours after the incident.

“We were called to reports of a confrontat­ion between two teenagers at about 2pm on Tuesday,” the police spokespers­on said.

“The incident happened at premises in the Alexandra Park area of Fishponds. A 14-year- old boy sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where his condition is described as stable – not life threatenin­g or life changing.”

“Police arrested a teenager on Tuesday night in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody,” he said.

The St Matthias Park site in Fishponds is one of two pupil referral units by the school, the other is in Brentry. The school is an academy run by the Bristol-based Learn@MAT multiacade­my trust.

A statement issued on behalf of the school said: “One of our students was assaulted on our site on Tuesday. The assailant was not a pupil or connected to the school. We are working with the police to aid their investigat­ion and are providing support, with assistance from Bristol City Council, to our pupils and staff.”

The Academy is an alternativ­e provider in Fishponds with a second base in Brentry. Serving central and north Bristol, it provides short-term placements for up to 60 students who are not managing in their secondary school.
