MAKING it as a musician is tough these dayss but help is at hand for Bristol-based talent, thanks to a renowned recording studio.

Factory Studios in Barton Hill has launched a scheme which will see 40 artists bag free mentoring, rehearsal space and recording time. Its scouts are on the hunt for young bands and DJs to take part in this year’s M.A.S Record’s scheme, which provides emerging artists with a bridge into the industry – with patrons including former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant and Underworld’s Karl Hyde. Based at the studios, every band and DJ selected will get around £3,000 of free services along with mentoring from industry luminaries. Over the past 10 years, M.A.S has set a number of bands on the road to success including Swim Deep, Deluka, Octane OK and more. Factory Studios is the studio of choice for Bristol acts like Massive Attack, Idles and George Ezra and touring bands including PJ Harvey, Kurt Vile and Guy Garvey.

It is inviting applications from bands and DJs with initial auditions to be held in August. The deadline to apply is July 29.

“We’re delighted to be running the M.A.S scheme again,” said Leon Curry, co-director of Factory Studios. “The music industry has changed dramatically over the past decade and M.A.S fills the role of a record label development department, offering promising young bands a route to success.”
