Terror for bus passengers as gang of youths smash window in latest attack

-

A BUS was targeted by a group of youths as it passed through Withywood on Friday evening.

Shortly after 8.30pm the First Bus 75 service to Hengrove was attacked outside the McColl’s shop, in Four Acres, during which an object was thrown at the window causing it to smash leaving passengers terrified on board.

The incident follows a string of similar cases in south Bristol in recent months, which have left operators forced to divert routes and publicly state their fears for the safety of drivers.

Jordan Davies, 18, from Hart- cliffe was sat next to the window damaged during the incident.

He said: “As the bus went past the shop all I heard was a big bang. I turned around slightly and noticed that I had glass all over my jacket and some glass hit my neck, but just made a mark.

“I was in the front row of the bus, where there was some glass, as well as a lot more in the second and third row. I was lucky because I normally sit in the second row.

“I did see the kids were hanging out by the McColl’s area but couldn’t see who it was and never knew they would do something like this.”

A spokesperson for First West of England said: “We can confirm the lower deck of our 75 bus travelling to Hengrove was hit by an object causing one of the windows to shatter. While our driver reported no-one was hurt, we are deeply concerned about the incident.

“Immediately following the incident, our driver moved the bus and passengers to a safe location. While the incident took place outside the bus, we will be reviewing on board CCTV coverage. We will also be cooperating fully with the police in their investigations.”
