Appeal after M5 lorry hit and run

POLICE have issued an urgent appeal for informatio­n after a lorry collided with a car on the M5 motorway near Bristol and drove off.

A heavy goods vehicle (HGV) smashed into a black Volkswagen Golf on the northbound carriagewa­y on Friday morning, December 7.

The incident, which happened at the junction 17 turn-off for Cribbs Causeway around 8am, caused a significan­t amount of damage to the Golf.

The occupants of the car were “lucky to escape” with just minor injuries, Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement.

“Did you see a collision between a HGV and a black Volkswagen Golf on the M5 northbound at junction 17 at around 8am on Friday, December 7?” The force asked in their appeal.

“The occupants of the VW Golf were lucky to escape with minor injuries but their car was badly damaged. The HGV failed to stop.

“If you were on the M5 in this area around 8am on Friday and saw this incident or have dashcam footage please call 101 and give the call handler reference 5218270796.”
