If I were a buoy ...
FOR singing sensation Beyonce, it’s likely to be a first.
The American star – who had a worldwide hit with If I Were A Boy in 2008 – has now had a buoy in Weston Bay named after her.
North Somerset Council rangers were asked by Trinity House, a charity dedicated to safeguarding shipping and seafarers, to carry out an audit of all the buoys in the bay and give them names.
Working alongside the RNLI, a competition was launched to get local scout, brownie, beaver and cub groups to come up with suggestions.
The winning name came from Dylan Mitchell of the 1st North Worle Scout Group, who were presented with a certificate by the RNLI for their efforts and shown where the buoy was located in the bay.
The youngsters also enjoyed a tour around the RNLI station where they got to see the lifeboats and other rescue equipment.
Scout group assistant district commissioner Ben OwenBrooks, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the lifeboat station, learning all about the boats and equipment used.
“The stories of the many rescues were fascinating to hear.
“We are immensely proud that one of our scouts, Dylan Mitchell, had his entry chosen.
“Identifying the buoy will no doubt become part of our hikes for many years to come.”
