Teamed up with Santa

-

friends want to demonise Colston and hide or downplay his philanthropy. Of course both of these distortions of Colston are wrong as they both use misinformation to further agendas.

So what is the right approach to take? Quite simple really, provide the “unvarnished facts” of the pros and cons of Colston and of Bristol’s involvement in the slave trade, together with details of historical context. The second plaque planned for the Colston statue could be a first step, and the Council’s idea to use the Georgian House to house a permanent exhibition on Bristol’s role in the slave trade and its abolition a second, affordable, one.

The other key part of this solution would be a permanent memorial to the victims of Bristol’s Transatlantic Slave Trade and those involved in its abolition.

Education, education, education...
