JAKE Woolmore says Bristol Bears are relishing the opportunity to take on La Rochelle on French soil ahead of Saturday’s European Challenge Cup clash at Stade Marcel-Deflandre.
Three tries in 17 second-half minutes saw the Pool Four leaders earn a 35-22 bonus-point win at Ashton Gate last weekend, and Woolmore insists Bristol are “excited by the challenge” they face in the return fixture on Saturday night.
“There’s a good buzz around the club,” he said. “We’re all very excited to be taking on the challenge to go to France.
“It’s one of the places you want to test yourself. They’ve got big crowds that can be semi-hostile at times and I think we’re all excited for the challenge.
“We want to be a team that can go anywhere, put our hands up and say we belong here, and I think the boys are eager to go and do that this weekend.
“We don’t fear the pressure, we get excited by it and want to throw ourselves in the deep end, give it all we’ve got and show what we’re capable of. It’s the mentality we have in any competition and any game we have.
“We take each week as it comes, look at the opposition we have in front of us, and that’s the best way to go about, week by week.
“We want to have a good training week and then go and celebrate the work we have done on the training field when match-day comes at the weekend.
“Each week we want to build, progress and generate consistency in our performances. Every performance, we’re trying to build and improve so we can get some good results under our belts.”
