Bristol City Region Brexit Assembly

-

The UK government twice attempted to appeal against the referral of the case to the European court but failed.

The reaction to the withdrawal agreement in Bristol has so far been mixed.

All of Bristol’s opposition MPs have said they will vote against the draft deal in parliament, while the city’s businesses remain divided.

Some organisations in Bristol have welcomed progress on the deal, while others are concerned the political instability surrounding the deal could cause problems.

Bristol business owner Steve Preston, who is the managing director of Heat Recruitment, says companies should not be worrying about something that is “completely outside of their control”.

He said: “Businesses and business owners will still want to grow their companies and make profit despite the varying outcomes from Brexit.” THE Bristol City Region Brexit Assembly is a 12-month-long series of events and debates around Brexit being run by the Bristol Post, PwC, Business West, the University of Bristol and Bristol City Centre BID.

The events, which will be apolitical, will bring together heads of industry from the Bristol region in sectors including finance, law, manufacturing and tech, to discuss the key challenges for the city and how businesses can continue to thrive after leaving the EU. The next breakfast event is taking place at the University of Bristol on 31 January.

Bristol Post business editor Hannah Baker said: “We will be sharing ideas on how to address the challenges facing business, such as skills and talent, while also looking at any opportunities that might arise.

“Bristol is a thriving hub of enterprise and Brexit is not going to change that – but this is a chance for the voice of Bristol’s businesses to be heard.”
