District Mansfield treble fires up Wanderers

- Simon PARKINSON postsport@b-nm.co.uk

NICHOLAS Wanderers Reserves showed off their Bristol and District League Division One title credentials with an emphatic 8-1 victory over fellow high-fliers Bendix.

Aaron Mansfield led the way in a remarkably one-sided contest with a hat-trick and he was joined on the scoresheet by Jack Britton (2), Jack Neagle (2) and Jesse Drew. The victory lifted Wanderers to third place in the table, only a point behind Bendix, whose consolation goal came from Lee McNeil.

Wanderers also have two games in hand on both Fry Club A and second-placed Bendix heading into Saturday’s away game against fourth-placed Henbury Reserves at Arnall Drive (2pm).

Fry’s remain at the summit, with a three-point advantage over Bendix, despite having to settle for a point from a 2-2 Somerdale draw with a useful AFC Mangotsfield District outfit. Joe James and Ben Fews scored for Fry’s.

Shaun Werrett and Ben Porter grabbed the goals as Rangeworthy recorded a first win in six, beating visitors Seymour United Reserves 2-1.

Hambrook Reserves stretched their unbeaten run to four games in Division Two as goals from Jack Cole (2), Tiago Simoes, Eric Davies, Clark Wiltshire and Thomas Gallagher swept them to a 6-1 home win against Olveston United Reserves, who had taken the lead direct from a conrer, at Whiteshill Common.

The in-form home side had led 3-1 at the break and that was how it stayed until the last five minutes when Davies’ tap-in, Wiltshire’s left-foot finish and Gallagher’s penalty boosted the victory margin.

Chipping Sodbury Town A leapfrogged Hartcliffe into second place after beating them 4-2 on the road. Byron Leigh and Gary Bennett scored for Hartcliffe.

Highridge United Reserves show no signs of wavering at the top of the table. Beaten only once this season, they saw off lowly Iron Acton Reserves 3-0 at Lakemead Grove, thanks to goals from Ashton Williams (2) and Dean Gingell.

There is no stopping Sean Bailey and his Mendip Broadwalk A comrades in Division Three. Bailey struck four goals and watched Ross Hathway and Oliver Greenhill grab the others in a 6-4 home victory over Greyfriars Athletic A, who remain bottom of the table without a point.

However, the embattled away side made a real fist of it as Pete Mather’s treble and a Ben Douglas strike kept them in an absorbing Creswicke Road contest to the very end.

Brimsham Green, in second place, suffered a surprise 3-1 home defeat against Roman Glass St George A.

Josh Gibbs was on target for Brimsham, but goals from Aaron Stewart (2) and Mohamed Ali earned the visitors all three points.

Fry Club B remain unbeaten and looking good to win promotion from Division Four, with games in hand on their rivals.

All their attributes were on display in a 6-0 home romp against Bristol Eagles, sealed by goals from Tom Bealing (2), Paul Cutter, Vasco Dinis, Mike Stinson and Will Simpson-Jarman.

Nathan Daniels (2) and goal machine Scott Cameron supplied the ammunition for undefeated Division Five leaders Winter- bourne United Reserves as they overcame Highridge United A 3-1 in a bad-tempered game at Parkside Avenue.

The victory should put them in good heart for this Saturday’s crunch away encounter with Oldland Abbotonians Colts (2pm).

Oldland lie in second spot, behind Winerbourne only on goal difference, after seeing off spirited AFC Grace 7-4 at Sir Bernard Lovell School, thanks to ace marksman Aldo Marku’s five-goal salvo and strikes by Toby Sawyer and Dominic Parish.

Grace hit back through Matt Churchill (2), Alex West and Alexander Rennolds.

Mid-table Hanham Abbotonians kept up their good form with a 7-1 victory at Greyfriars Athletic B, who are still to win this season.

Toby Werrett took the scoring honours with a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Elliot Pearce, Josh Langdon, Dylan Stroud and Mike Farrell as the visitors extended their unbeaten sequence to six games. Dale Drew replied for Greyfriars.

Mitch Hill and Callum Birkinshaw delivered a third straight win for Seymour United A – 2-0 against Westerleigh Sports Reserves at Coronation Park.
