WAEL al-Qadi has issued a statement following the departure of Darrell Clarke from Bristol Rovers.

Clarke has been manager for the entirety of al-Qadi’s reign as Rovers president, but, with the club in the League One relegation zone, the Gas have now taken the decision to part company with the long-serving boss.

On Twitter, al-Qadi paid tribute to the departing Rovers manager and described him as a personal friend.

He said: “I would like to sincerely and deeply thank Darrell for the hard work and dedication he has shown our beloved club over the past years. It comes as a sad conclusion that he leaves us today.

“The positive effect he’s had on players, staff and supporters during his tenure has been spectacular.

“Darrell will remain a friend of the club, a personal friend and I wish him nothing but tremendous success in his career after a welldeserved break - it’s been a tough couple of months.

“It’s in times like these that we need to remain focused on supporting the players while the board and I continuously work on other necessary changes which, unless 100 per cent certain, will not be disclosed publicly. If it’s not an official statement, it remains to be a rumour, please bear that in mind.

“I am wholly dedicated to ensuring that the club progresses and we all continue to be proud Gasheads. UTG!”
