A MAN found dead in a Thornbury stream had “toxic” levels of alcohol in his body, an inquest into his death has heard.

Nicholas Gibbs’ body was found by a member of the public on August 24, 2018.

The 47-year-old was discovered at around 6pm in the the Morton Way area.

At the time, an Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson said the force was not treating the death as suspicious.

The spokesperson added: “It will be referred to the coroner as a sudden death.”

At an inquest into Mr Gibbs’ death held on Tuesday assistant coroner Myfanwy Buckeridge returned a narrative conclusion.

She told Avon Coroner’s Court: “Nicholas Gibbs died due to the combined effect of drowning and toxic levels of alcohol.

“How he came to be in the water is not known.”
