Five months of roadworks start on city centre route
COMMUTERS face months of delays and disruption as roadworks begin on a major city centre route.
A new inbound bus lane is being built along Anchor Road, with work scheduled to begin today.
Bristol City Council warned the works may cause long delays for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians during the next five months.
But the authority said “once complete, bus punctuality and journey times will be improved for all road-users”.
It is hoped the work will bring enhanced cycling and walking routes for hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists passing through the area every day.
Bristol mayor Marvin Rees said: “It is only by offering an alternative that we will reduce congestion and air pollution. The work is part of the Better Bus Area Fund which aims to improve and increase the use of public transport in Bristol”.
The work follows public consultations that took place over the last 18 months.
While the work is taking place, alternative routes will be signposted around the site, and also publicised on travelwest.info/betterbusarea.
