Hold council to contract

-

✒ I HAVE been reading the reports on the Stoke Lodge playing field saga. Here we go again, people believing they have the right to roam on a piece of ground which has been contracted out by the council to Cotham School for use as the school sports ground.

I used to live in West Sussex, my two grandsons played local junior football, 90% on council owned pitches. Before the game, parents etc would line up and start at one end of the ground, walk to the opposite end of the pitch, picking up dog’s mess as they went.

I have had the unpleasant experience of seeing a boy whose legs were covered in dog’s mess, which we missed! He was crying and automatically put his hands to his face and eyes.

What a state when you have seen the first aid man trying to remove the mess from the boy’s face using the cold watersponge from his bucket. You would agree dogs should be banned from the playing areas.

All power to Cotham School. You have a contract with the council for the field. Hold the council to it. Believe me, this is one area where a fence should be a must.

If and when you erect the fence, ensure the bottom of the fence wire is encased in concrete.

The worst offenders with dogs are the night walkers, ask any groundsman.
