Hill goes so close to grabbing a late winner for Weston

-

WESTON, despite being 1-0 down at half-time, looked a different side in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts with a late equaliser.

Eastbourne opened the scoring when Charlie Walker passed to Joel Rollinson, and his cross into the centre landed perfectly for Eastbourne skipper Kane Wills, who guided his shot into the corner of Luke Purnell’s net.

Purnell made an excellent save just before half-time when Joe Quigley’s header from six yards was tipped over by Purnell. At the other end, Marlon Jackson fired a shot into the arms of Sam Howes after driving forward from halfway.

Tom Harrison’s toe-poke from a George Nurse free-kick was blocked in front of the home net, while Purnell saved Dean Cox’s shot from 18 yards at the other end.

Lloyd Dawes fired over when wellplaced inside the box following Quigley’s pass, and Eli Phipps couldn’t get the ball out his feet quickly enough from Nurse’s clipped cross, with the Welshman’s shot blocked by Tom Gardner.

Weston equalised when Phipps turned and got a shot away on the edge of the area. Howes pushed it away but following in was Gethyn Hill, and he tapped into the unguarded net.

In the last additional minute of the game, a loose ball fell to Hill. He unleashed a rocket, which smacked off the post from 30 yards and bounced away to safety.
