Beale appeal TV star Adam hosts gin afternoon tea
IT’S a far cry from the Queen Vic, but the actor who plays EastEnders’ Ian Beale has branched out in a new direction.
’Enders favourite Adam Woodyatt has started distilling his own gin, and Bristol fans of the spirit are being offered the chance to taste it with him at a boozy afternoon tea.
Adam, the soap’s longest serving actor, will be visiting Cadbury House in Congresbury for a one-off visit.
The soap star will be talking about his journey into gin making and serving his NEAT gin, which he and wife Beverley have developed over the past two years.
Adam will also share ideas on how to make the perfect G&T, along with a number of other gin-based cocktails.
Adam said: “Our story is quite a simple one. We just wanted to make gin.
“Beverley and I found a 15th century recipe and used that as our starting point.
“There was a list of botanicals but no quantities, and it was like a jigsaw without a picture.
“We tried different combinations, constantly tasting and testing until the 11 botanicals became eight.
“It’s great that we can now share our
journey with other gin enthusiasts, and I’m looking forward to visiting Cadbury House and meeting lots of guests to chat and talk about our experience.
“Gin, of course, has a long history with London, but it was in fact the Dutch who are thought to have really invented the spirit.
“It was in the late 1600s that the first gin craze really took off in London, when a pint of gin was cheaper than a pint of beer.
“Luckily, today things are a little calmer, however gin has certainly had something of a renaissance, and is now viewed as the bedrock for a huge range of cocktails and, of course, the classic G&T.”
Mehmet Kandemir, general manager at Cadbury House said: “Adam’s passion for gin, as well as his new brand, is clear to see, and we’re delighted to welcome him and his wife to Cadbury House.
“This is the perfect event for anyone who is not only a fan of Adam but enjoys gin. However, we have a limited number of spaces, so anyone who wants to come along will need to book their space quickly.”
The NEAT Gin Afternoon Tea with Adam Woodyatt is on Saturday, April 13, at 2pm. Tickets are £21.95. To book a space, call 01934 834343 (option 1) or email info@cadburyhouse.com.
