Walk for mental health awareness

-

A HOPEWALK is being held in Portishead to raise awareness of suicide prevention and the importance of good mental health.

We are Aware has teamed up with young suicide prevention charity Papyrus to organise the walk and talk event on Saturday.

We Are Aware is a North Somerset based community interest group, supported by North Somerset Council, which promotes good mental health and wellbeing through events and building partnerships with other related organisations.

The event will start at 6pm, beginning with an introduction from a local couple who tragically lost their son to suicide.

The lantern-lit walk will set off at 6.30pm around the Portishead Marine Lake grounds accompanied by the Ambling Band.

The event will finish by Portishead Open Air Pool. The Samaritans will also be there to provide information, support and advice. More information is available on their Facebook event or by emailing AwareNorth@gmail.com.

The walk is part of a series of events being organised as part of the NHS’s new mental health campaign, Every Mind Matters.

To coincide with the campaign, North Somerset libraries are promoting ‘Reading Well,’ a collection of titles to help people manage their health and wellbeing using self-help reading.
