U18 Combination Tigers too strong for Little Stoke battlers

-

STOKE Lane Tigers ran out 7-1 winners at home to Little Stoke Colts in a Bristol Combination Under-18 Division One game.

A good passing move allowed Harry Tetlow to open the scoring in the fifth minute for Tigers.

For the next 30 minutes Little Stoke had much more possession but could not break down the Tigers defence.

With half-time approaching, the Tigers scored two goals in quick succession through Oakley Dawes and Saud Alyaseen.

The second half started well for Little Stoke. Adam Cain was strong on the ball and his powerful shot was superbly saved by the Tigers goalkeeper.

Tigers were awarded a penalty for a shirt pull and it was competently put away by Dawes.

Ethan Jury, who had a solid game at the back for the Colts, nearly got on the score sheet with a shot from a free-kick, while Massimo Di Lecce also went close with an overhead kick.

Ellis Rogers made several good saves for the Colts, but Tigers still managed to add three more goals through Levi Hope, Dawes and Joel Gayle.

Colts substitute Naveed Arifave pulled a goal back with a superb 25-yard lob.

In Division Two, Bristol Central gained a 5-1 success at Cutters Friday.

Central took the lead within four minutes when Barney Moore smashed a shot into the top corner from inside the 18-yard box.

Cutters were unlucky not to equalise almost immediately when Harry Billitteri headed just wide from a whipped-in free-kick.

Central generally had the upper hand and extended their lead on the quarter-hour when Joel Cassar finished off a neat move.

Shortly after half-time, Cutters got themselves back into the game when Billitteri caught Central’s goalkeeper Mikenagh Quirke off his line and slotted the ball home.

The fourth quarter of the game belonged to Central who added three more goals.

Mahad Hashi fired a shot into the top corner of the net to make it 3-1. Moore added the fourth with a wonderful curling effort from outside the box, then a defensive mistake allowed Mani Baird to score Central’s fifth.

In Division Three, Bristol Central Colts had a 2-1 home win against Stoke Lane Lions.

In a great game played by two evenly matched sides, Stoke Lane battling hard with a bare minimum squad of ten players and they nearly caused an upset.

The Lions had a large amount of the play in the first half with a strong defensive display, a good midfield battle and some brave goalkeeping by Shay Richards kept them in the game and the score at half-time was 0-0.

In the second half, Bristol Central again had most of the chances but the Stoke Lane goalkeeper again kept them in the game.

Stoke Lane shocked Central by taking the lead when Jack Brice slotted home.

Central equalised ten minutes later when Mckyle Beck’s shot found the top corner from 25 yards out.

As Stoke Lane tired, Oliver Mogg scored the winner for Central.

Also in Division Three, Chew Valley won 4-1 at home to Bishopston.

Chew Valley’s Pablo Marquez came close to scoring early on, but the Bishopston goalkeeper made a fine save to push the ball on to the crossbar.

In the 26th minute, Eli Smith gave Chew Valley the lead when he headed home from a Freddie Gwyther corner.

Two minutes into the second half, Chew went further ahead when Tom Parfittset up Smith to score.

Donovan Campell pulled one back for Bishopston, but Chew soon restablished their two-goal lead when Smith completed his hat-trick.

Chew continued to create chances and substitute Sam Barlow made it 4-1 when he finished off a perfect ball through from Marquez.
