Popular diners close after 30 years

Rocotillos has closed for good after shutting for January

A BRISTOL institution has closed both of its restaurants in the city.

Rocotillos has been a name familiar with Bristolians for nearly 30 years, with a site on Queens Row and a second on Gloucester Road.

The two diners were a hit, serving classic American and English dishes including burgers, hot dogs and hearty full breakfasts.

They were hugely popular with younger diners in the city, largely thanks to the range of milkshakes and impressive dessert menu.

But alarm bells started ringing last month when signs appeared at both restaurants stating they were closed for refurbishment.

At its Gloucester Road site, the sign read: “We will remain closed until the end of January.

“January is such a quiet time of year and we are catching up on a few things.

“Sorry for any inconvenience.” Fears were confirmed when a statement was shared on Rocotillo’s Facebook page by manager Craig Collins, explaining that both restaurants have closed.

It read: “It is with the deepest regret that I inform you that after more than 26 years serving Bristol, Rocotillos is now permanently closed! Unfortunately this is the case for both locations.

“I’d like to thank you all for the amazing memories and your support and custom over the years.”

Craig also thanked customers who have visited over the years, as well as its suppliers and staff, without whom ‘none of the good times would have been possible.’
