-

SOMERSET have re-signed New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson for this summer’s Vitality Blast.

The 29-year-old will be available for all of Somerset’s South Group games, as well as the quarter-final if the club quality.

Anderson has starred at Taunton over the last two years, hitting 514 runs in 16 matches as Somerset reached Finals Day in 2018 before smashing 142 runs in four games last season.

Anderson said: “I’m looking forward to playing for Somerset again next summer. The club has a great squad and the atmosphere in the dressing room is one of the best I’ve experienced.”

Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry added: “Corey has made a big impression both on and off the field for the club in his two previous stints with us.

“He was one of the first names mentioned when it came to considering our overseas players for next season because he is one of the best T20 players in the world and he was extremely popular with the playing staff and also with our members and supporters.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him as a competitor and as a man. As a club we are delighted that he will be joining us again in 2020.”

Meanwhile, England all-rounder David Willey has been named as Yorkshire’s new captain for the T20 Blast.

The 29-year-old - who missed out on a place in England’s World Cup-winning squad last summer takes over from club captain Steven Patterson, who will remain as skipper for Yorkshire’s County Championship and 50-over campaigns.

“To be a captain at any club, let alone the biggest in the country, is a great honour,” Willey told the club website.

“Hopefully this is the first step and we can have a successful year in 2020.”

Willey, who has been capped 74 times by England in limited overs cricket, joined Yorkshire from Northamptonshire in 2016.
