Hockey Polly’s second-half goal is a winning one for Robinsons

IN National Conference West, Clifton Robinsons 2nds defeated visitors Oxford University 2-1.

A Dayzee Moss goal after 15 minutes gave the home side the lead, which they held until the interval.

The students equalised in the second half, before Polly Pyke scored the winner in the 63rd minute.

In the same division, University of Bristol lost 5-1 against Basingstok­e. Hattie Barnes gave the local side a sixth-minute lead, but the visitors scored three goals before the interval. Two further goals in the second half earned Basingstok­e a comfortabl­e win.

On Saturday, Clifton Robinsons 2nds host Cheltenham at Golden Hill (2pm), while the students are at home to second-placed Exe at Coombe Dingle, also 2pm.

Clifton Robinsons resume National League action in Investec Premier Division on Saturday with an away game against Beeston. Claire Thomas’ side, who are in fifth spot, will be looking to get above Buckingham, who are just a point ahead in fourth position.

In Verde Recreo Men’s Premiershi­p, Westbury/Utd Banks lost 3-1 against Team Bath A. Max Roberts scored their goal.

Gary Roper scored for Westbury/Utd Banks 2nds in a 9-1 defeat against Taunton Vale A in Conference South.

Westbury/Utd Banks 3rds went down 8-0 against Keynsham.

Westbury/Utd Banks Wanderers restored some pride for the club when defeating South Gloucs A 4-1, thanks to a hat-trick from Ollie Nelson and a goal from Paul Mason. Westbury/Utd Banks Wizards had a 3-2 victory against Weston-super-Mare A, with Terry Bennett, Chris Tomlinson and Richard Beesley their scorers.

Westbury/Utd Banks Warriors and Widgets suffered heavy defeats - the Warriors lost 6-0 against Clifton Robinsons E and the Widgets succumbed to Mendip A 5-0.

Leaders Firebrands had a 10-0 victory over Isca/University of Exeter 3rds in West Women’s Premier One, in the only fixture involving a local side.
