Green to brown Fundraiser launched to repair damage to land

-

A FUNDRAISER has been set up to repair college Green after it was turned into a mud bath following the Greta Thunberg rally.

The patch of usually grassy land outside city Hall is now a sea of brown after thousands of people gathered in the wet weather to watch the 17-year-old climate activist speak.

More than 20,000 people are believed to have attended the Bristol Youth Strike 4 climate event, marching around the city centre.

The cost to repair any damage to the land will fall to Bristol city council, and therefore the taxpayer.

The authority told the Post it was too early to tell how much damage has been caused to college Green and confirmed it would carry out a visual assessment over the next few days.

once this assessment has taken

place, the council said it will have a much better understanding of what needs to be done and how much it will cost.

But it looks like the council could have some help in covering the costs as a fundraiser has been set up to help pay for any damage caused. The GoFundMe page had already raised more than £11,000 of its £20,000 target by last night.

Pictures of College Green following the rally show the site completely covered in muddy footprints and barely any greenery in sight.

However, those in attendance were careful not to damage any of the flowers planted on the green as images shared on social media showed flower beds left intact surrounded by brown mud.
