Launderette helping city residents in need

-

A CAFE-launderette in Stokes Croft has launched a crowdfunder to help vulnerable people in Bristol wash their clothes.

Many families living in small flats are struggling during the pandemic. In extreme cases, families of five are living in two bed room flats and are struggling to get their clothes cleaned.

Recently, At The Well helped residents living in Lansdowne Court – a block of flats in Easton with approximately 80 residents – with their washing.

In the block, there are just five washing machines and three driers.

At The Well has assisted the residents with their washing as a one off. But they realised there was a greater need for this in high rise flats or tower blocks across the city. Now they have launched a crowdfunder to help build a sustainable solution – with donations already reaching £9,000.

They are working with Bristol City Council through its We Are Bristol initiative, assisting a diverse group of people within the city. A directory service has been set up for people to get in touch with their launderette.

Hannah Cox,23, assistant manager of At The Well said: “For us it’s really about bringing the community together through an essential service and helping those who are especially vulnerable or elderly. It’s the type of thing that’s overlooked but it’s really important. Bristol is such a community hub and we want to do everything we can to help .”
