NHS: We must act now and not out of optimism but absolute necessity

-

IAM responding to Anna Rogers’ letter in response to my initial letter regarding the NHS. do agree with everything she says however my letter was not one of optimism but rather ‘we must change’ our direction for the benefit of present and future generations. The next dreadful plague, which coronavirus is, may kill millions rather than hundreds of thousands as now. We must be prepared. History always repeats itself.

I again strongly suggest that we speak to our local and national politicians to exact pressure for crucial change in properly funding the NHS, social/adult care, charities and frontline key services. We have little choice if we are to survive. Where politicians do not act or respond, then like-minded people from all generations should consider standing as Independent candidates during elections.

Enough elected candidates can then stand as the ‘coalition in changing politics’ or C.I.C.P.

This may stir the main parties in doing the right thing and listening and acting as the people have empowered them to do. No doubt our current PM will endorse this based on his history.

How many times have we heard ‘We have a plan or strategy’ and no one has seen this; ‘We have lessons to learn’ and how many times have we heard this and nothing or very little changes; and finally ‘We have no money’ and these are the first words I heard from a baby to near on 70 years later – nothing changes.

As for the excellent letter from Pete Millory people should check how many times our PM voted against paying more to the NHS staff; and the current Chancellor’s votes against giving rights to resident EU citizens. I wonder if their opinions have now changed?

Finally I believe a local People’s Assembly with approved authority will help to chivy along our local politicians to make the changes that the majority of people demand and not just look after the interests of the privileged few. The option is to wait years for local and national elections full of promises which are rarely if ever delivered and in the meantime many people suffer.

We must act now and not out of optimism but absolute necessity.
