APPLE DROPS A NEW IPHONE

A GLOBAL pandemic is not about to stop Apple from updating its iPhone line-up, now is it?

It might not be the iPhone 12 – we can’t expect that until the autumn – but the Cupertino tech giant has just unleashed a new version of its low-end iPhone SE – the cheapest phone in its line-up.

It adopts the form-factor of the iPhone 8 (which has now been discontinued), and features touch ID and updated internals for zippier performance.

In fact, the Apple-designed A13 Bionic chip inside this new phone is the same one that powers Apple’s highest-spec phone, the iPhone 11 Pro… so the SE will be no slouch.

The biggest compromise seems to be on the price – the iPhone SE starts at £419 – considerably less than what you would pay for an iPhone 11 (which starts at £729), or an iPhone 11 Pro (starting at £1,049).

iPhone SE is available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB models in black, white and (PRODUCT)RED starting at £419.

Apple also revealed that pre-orders for its new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro are being taken for delivery “starting next week”.

The new keyboard case, which features a trackpad for the first time, will cost £299 for the 11in iPad Pro, and £349 for the 12.9in iPad Pro.

FACEBOOK’S PLAYING GAMES

WATCHING other people play video games online is about as close as you’re going to get to watching ‘sport’ at the moment… and Facebook is determined to get a piece of the action.

It’s launched a new app, Facebook Gaming, aimed at taking on the likes of Twitch and YouTube to bring gaming video streaming to your smartphone.

There’s also a way to discover new games and connect with other users, as well as it featuring some games you can actually play on the platform.

Unusually, it’s Android-only at launch, with iOS support coming soon. It’s available now for download from the Google Play store.
