From fighting crime to keeping in line at busy tip

-

FORMER police officers are among the volunteers who have stepped up to help as a tip reopened earlier this week.

Keynsham Recycling Centre reopened at 8am on Wednesday for residents who live in the Bath and North East Somerset area.

There were thought to be around 150 cars waiting in the queues, which were around quarter of a mile in length.

The queue was described as “neatly organized” and “busy, but well managed”.

Team Rubicon, made up primarily of ex-service men and women, is overseeing the queues and has said former police officers are among their volunteers in the Bristol area.

A spokeswoman said: “We have the Keynsham tasking underway and also have some incredible individuals from the Bristol area volunteering across the UK.

“An example of this is former Avon and Somerset police officer Nick Hoon, who has gone above and beyond on our operation (Op Re:Act) and done an outstanding job for the NHS as a volunteer.”

The recycling centre has a large catchment area, with people from as far as Midsomer Norton to Bath being able to use the facility. Checks are being done on motor- ists for proof of addess.
