‘Grot spot a magnet for dumped waste’

-

RESIDENTS in St Pauls said one grot spot on a street corner has become a magnet for fly-tippers.

The corner of Franklyn Street and Franklyn Lane is privately owned – and according to local residents, that means it is filled with rubbish, dumped by people who often come from outside the area.

Kerry Smith said she had reported the problem at least three times a yea and it always takes weeks to get the mess cleared up.

She said she reported the most recent dumping at the end of August, and it’s still there now – with people adding to the pile every day.

“I first reported the fly-tipping in August and then again in September,” she said.

“It’s an ever-growing fly tipping pile.

“This is an eyesore and I expect better from the local services that we pay council tax for.”

Because the land not the public highway or public-owned land, in law it is the responsibility of the landowner, and not Bristol City Council or Bristol Waste, to tidy up.

Bristol Waste told Kerry that her report was passed on to the council’s Neighbourhood Enforcement Team on September 10, and they are still waiting to be told what should happen next.

“The council need to pay for it,” said Kerry.

“I cannot bear looking at it one more day,” she added.
