999: CRITICAL CONDITION
Channel 5, 9pm
THIS intense fly-on-the-wall documentary follows the medics at the Royal Stoke University Hospital as they take life and death decisions on emergency wards.
Filmed through the eyes of staff and patients, it confronts the harsh reality of a relentless workload and vital decisions made as quickly as possible.
In this episode, Daniel’s life hangs in the balance after a one punch attack in the street leaves him with a potentially devastating brain injury. Now unconscious, Trauma Team Leader Richard Fawcett quickly discovers he has a bleed inside his brain and needs emergency surgery.
Time is also critical for Michael, who has just been admitted after having a cardiac arrest. The staff have just minutes to save his life.
And Paul also needs urgent life saving surgery as his aortic valve has torn. The operation is hugely risky, but if he doesn’t have it, he could die at any moment.
