Adelakun opts for Hull move ahead of Rovers

BRISTOL City winger Hakeeb Adelakun has joined Hull City on a season-long loan deal after turning down a move to Bristol Rovers.

The Robins were in discussions with the Tigers over a move - as reported earlier this month - and there was further competition for the 24-year-old in League One.

The Bristol Post understands Adelakun , pictured, visited Rovers on Wednesday and spoke with manager Ben Garner, but has ultimately decided to head north instead.

Garner was in the stands at Ashton Gate last week to see City beat Northampton

Town 4-0 in the Carabao Cup, as the Gas play the Cobblers next Saturday in League One.

Adelakun did well at Scunthorpe United before heading to BS3 in the summer of 2018, but has struggled to win a first-team place under Lee Johnson and now Dean Holden, and the chance to move closer to Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire may have been a draw for the player.

Rovers had been keen on adding the winger to their ranks for the 2020-21 season, evidence that Garner wants to bring greater pace and width to his team.

Graham Coughlan held a serious interest in Bristol City starlet Antoine Semenyo and tried to set up a loan move to the Mem - in what would have been a rare crossclub transfer in recent times, with Matty Taylor the last to switch between the blue and red half of the city. Coughlan even went as far as seeking references on Semenyo. However, a move did not materialise then - and neither has it now with 24-yearold Adelakun heading to Hull instead.
