Rice? On your bike...

WHILE the city fathers are busy creating gridlock in Bristol thus increasing pollution and urging the sick and very ill to get on their bicycles or public transport to get to Bristol hospitals perhaps they would spare a thought to the projected increase in the 160 million hectares of paddy fields that give off methane, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxides into the atmosphere.

Perhaps if they persuaded the thousands of millions who depend on rice to change their staple diet it would lead to an improvemen­t in greenhouse gases.

Also to spare a thought to the millions of landfill sites all over the world giving off the same noxious gases.
