Vyner signs new three-year City contract

-

VERSATILE Bristol City defender Zak Vyner has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract, as the defender pledges his future to the club until 2023.

Vyner has been ever-present in Dean Holden’s defence this season, after earning his way back into the first team during last season’s restart.

The 23-year-old developed through the academy system before making his City debut in a 2-0 Sky Bet Championship win over MK Dons in February 2016.

Chief executive officer Mark Ashton said: “Zak is another exemplary example of the homegrown talent here at Bristol City Football Club, so I’m thrilled to see how far he has come. We’re all delighted for him and to see his dedication and hard work come to fruition.”

City head coach Holden added: “Zak has proven he can step up to this level with his attitude, commitment, desire and overall quality - it’s been a joy to watch his progress. He has played a key role in our positive start to the 2020-21 season and long may he continue to develop and fight as an integral member of this football club.”

Vyner, who can play either at right-back or centre-back, made four appearances in the second half of the 2015-16 season before his first loan experience at Accrington Stanley. Further loan spells at Plymouth, Rotherham and Aberdeen followed.

City are also expected to announce a new contract for centre-back Taylor Moore soon.
