U18 Combination St Nicks hit back from two down to rescue a point

-

AFTER a few days of almost continuous rain it was looking bleak for football on Sunday. However, half of the scheduled 16 games in the Under18 Combination were played.

In the Premier Division both games played were drawn so there was no change at the top with Cribbs still leading the way.

Slimbridge Development drew 2-2 at home to St Nicholas Black.

A header from George DriverDickerson put Slimbridge an 18thminute lead, and they went 2-0 up in the 70th minute through Alfie Bradshaw.

St Nicholas quickly pulled a goal back through Jack Powell, and grabbed an equaliser right at the end when Driver-Dickerson miscued his clearance into the bottom corner of the net.

Table-topping Cribbs drew 1-1 at Lawrence Weston Athletic.

Lucas Morgan gave Cribbs an early lead, but Lawrence Weston rescued a point in the 90th minute when Chalrie Derham smashed the ball home following a free-kick from Bailey Turner.

In Division One, Downend Saints Orange maintained their 100 per cent record with a 3-0 win over Saltford Stars and head their division followed by Port of Bristol.

Fry Club Juniors were denied a first win of the season when Olveston grabbed an 88th-minute equaliser to take apoint from a 2-2 draw.

Olveston took an eight-minute lead via a close-range shot. Fry’s efforts were finally rewarded with a 60th-minute equaliser with a wellstruck volley from Max Michalak.

Soon after, Lewis Jones finished off a low cross from Kian Williams to put Fry’s ahead, only Olveston to level late on from a well-worked free-kick.

Thornbury Town won 2-1 at home to Bromley Heath United, having been given an early lead by Matthew Robertson’s free-kick.

With half-time approaching, Matthew Pegg scored direct from corner to give Thornbury a twogoal advantage. Bromley Heath United came back strongly in second half and reduced the arrears through Josh Sandrone.

In Division Two, Olveston U17 and Clifton Hawkes lead the way with both teams having won their opening two games.

Bitton enjoyed a 3-1 success at St Nicholas Green, thanks to goals from Ellis Clarke (2) and Joseph Moss. Liam Rossiter scored for St Nicks.

Clifton Hawks ran out 3-2 winners at Stoke Lane, who led 1-0 at the break through Jack Brice’s goal.

Ten minutes into the second half, Stoke Lane went 2-0 up with a fine goal from Archie Kingscott. However, Hawks hit back to win the game with strikes from Max Avery (2) and Flynn Hunter.

Three teams have won their opening two games in Division Three.

Highridge through to the next round

HIGHRIDGE welcomed Fry’s Wanderers to their ground last Sunday, looking to take their good run of form from the league into the Avon Youth League Under-12 Cup.

The wet weather didn’t put them off their game as Highridge advanced into the next round with a 9-2 victory. Their goals came from TJ Joyner (2), Ted Jones (2), Kash Phillips (2), Reece Brailey (2) and man-of-the-match Bailey Brookman.
