Several areas have witnessed big rise in cases

SOME neighbourh­oods in and around Bristol have seen sharp rises in coronaviru­s cases over recent days.

The latest Government data map shows how many cases were confirmed in small areas between October 1 and 7.

In Bristol, neighbourh­oods with high student population­s had the most positive tests.

Stoke Bishop had 51 cases – almost triple the 18 cases recorded there during the week to October 4. And 62 cases were registered in the city centre in the latest update, up from 33.

Eight neighbourh­oods in and around Bristol had double figures for cases in the week to October 4 – which has risen to 14 neighbourh­oods in the week to October 7.

» Redland & St Andrew’s: 16 cases, up from 12

» Bishopston: 15 cases, up from 14

» Stapleton: 12 cases, up from eight

» Fishponds North: 12 cases, up from eight

» Horfield: 11 cases, up from seven

» Hotwells: 11 cases, up from six

» Henbury & Brentry: 11 cases, down from 14

» Bradley Stoke Central: 11 cases, up from five

» Filton: 10 cases, down from 11.

The vast majority of neighbourh­oods in Bristol and South Gloucester­shire had at least three cases. In South Gloucester­shire, there were only three exceptions – Yate West, Yate South and Stoke Gifford each had between zero and two cases.

And in Bristol, all inner-city areas had at least three cases. The parts of the city with fewer than three cases were mostly on the southern edge, such as Hartcliffe and Whitchurch Park.

No areas of North Somerset had double figures for cases in the latest week. Weston Hillside had the most, with nine – up from four in the previous update.
