Suburban Veteran Glen helps Saints secure first points of campaign

FIFTY-YEAR-OLD St Aldhelms stalwart Glen Mitchell had an afternoon to remember at Hillside Gardens against Rockleaze Rangers Reserves, when he came off the bench to equalise and then won a penalty, converted by Luke Picton, before he had to go off injured as a third goal, a brilliant solo effort from Ryan Ball, earned the Saints their first points of the season.

Five games were played in the Premier Division and all were away wins. Parson Street OB moved into pole position courtesy of a 5-0 win at Avonmouth, with Lee Pitman (2), Aaron Price, Alex Graham, with a 30-yard screamer, and Eugene Sullyman on target to maintain the Street’s 100 per cent record.

Filton Athletic are up to third place and remain unbeaten after winning 2-0 at Old Georgians.

With two games off because of Covid-19, North Bristol United and Lawrence Weston Athletic quickly rearranged their game at Oaklands Park with the visitors scoring the only goal.

It was the same score at Stoke Rangers where visitors AFC Mangotsfie­ld took the points.

The two top teams in the Senior Division, Wessex Wanderers and Redbridge, met at the South Bristol Sports Centre and visitors Redbridge retained their 100 per cent record with a 4-1 win to go two points clear at the top. George Brown (2), S Preston and an own goal made up the Redbridge tally, while Jack Millard scored for Wanderers, who had goalkeeper Ben McCarthy carried off and taken to hospital with a broken ankle. Everybody at the Bristol Suburban League wishes Ben a full and speedy recovery.

Third-placed Ridings High drew 1-1 with visitors Almondsbur­y Reserves.

Southmead CS Athletic went down 2-1 at home to MPK Lofts.

George Holgate and Jon Westwood were on target for Jamaica Bell in a 2-1 win at Ashton United, for whom Jack Thorley scored.

The only home winners in the two top divisions were Bristol Bilbao who edged out AFC Brislingto­n Reserves 3-2, thanks to goals from Max Purnell, Evan Phillips and Ryan Elsbury. At the AJN Stadium, Keynsham Town A lost 3-0 to Bristol Telephone Reserves.

Stockwood Wanderers Reserves stay at the foot of the table after losing 3-2 at home to Bromley Heath United Reserves.

Division One leaders Cosmos FC lost 5-3 at Wanderers, with Ben Coleman completing a hat-trick for Wanderers. The new leaders are Rockleaze Rangers A after they won 5-1 at Corinthian Sports. Ryan Thompson scored the Sports’ goal with a 30-yard shot.

Josh Bennett, Connor Griffiths and Micky Alden were the Park Knowle marksmen in a 3-2 win at Blackhorse Road against AFC Mangotsfie­ld Reserves. At Headley Park, Filton Athletic Reserves beat a weakened St Aldhelms Reserves 15-0, with Shane Bulger (7), Liam Dart (4), Harry Garrett (2), Ben West and Aaron Cokes the goalscorer­s. Stoke Gifford United Reserves gained a first win of the season, 4-0 at home to Imperial Reserves.
