Patchway see off Fry’s to gain first win of the season

- Simon PARKINSON postsport@b-nm.co.uk

PATCHWAY Town Reserves are up and running at last following a challenging opening period in the Senior Division.

The Scott Park hosts had entered their fixture with Fry Club A parading a solitary point from their first five fixtures.

Patchway put all that behind them as Hassan Hussain and Lyam O’Rourke supplied the ammunition to see them to a 2-0 success.

Ryan Ricketts scored both goals to maintain Stapleton’s unbeaten start, although they had to settle for a point on their travels this time as George Saunders and an own goal for lowly Totterdown United Reserves ensured a 2-2 outcome at Norton Lane. Seymour United Reserves

leaped above their guests Henbury Reserves into eighth place in decisive fashion, as Dave Davies (2), Brandon Mills Jacinto, Lakelan Houghton and Mike Davey goals secured a 5-0 victory.

Lawrence Weston are going to take some stopping in Division One.

Having struck nine times in each of their two previous convincing victories, they beat Sea Mills Park 10-2 at the Kingsweston venue the teams share. Finlay Gayner and Josh Pearce celebrated trebles, Trey Merrett struck twice and Mike Thornhill and Kyle Buffery added the other goals. Josh Day’s double offered little comfort to the Millers.

Harrison Young hit four of the goals and Dan Thompson chipped in, too, as Thornbury Town Reserves rose to fourth with a 5-1 win at Tormarton , who had Ben Cousins on target.

In-form Bristol Barcelona needed only Dan Lamb’s goal to see off spirited strugglers Hartcliffe 1-0 at the BAWA.

Another of the division’s big hitters, Bradley Stoke Town Reserves , bounced back from a 3-0 home defeat by Barca by beating Hambrook Reserves 2-0 at Moorend Road, through Ashley Rogers-Milburn’s brace, to leap to fourth in the table.

There was relief and delight for Iron Acton Reserves , who claimed a first win seven matches by overcoming visiting bottom team Hanham Athletic Reserves 5-3 at Sunnyside Fields, via Tom Savory’s double and Hayden Watkins, Charlie Barr and player-boss Jon Wilmot efforts.

Westerleigh Sports go to highflying Bradley Stoke Town A on Saturday (2.30pm) targeting an elusive first point of their Division Two programme. But they did demonstrate encouraging potential as Elliot Bamford’s brace and Josh Miller’s strike gave them hope at home, before Cribbs B emerged 4-3 victors to register a first victory of their own Division Two mission, via Keiron Jenkins’ brace and Morgan Jones and Lewis Alderman goals.

The team to beat appears to be Winterbourne United Reserves , who kept a tight grip of pole position through Martin Bobok’s double and Liam Williams’ goal in a 3-1 home victory over closest competitor Bradley Stoke , whose Dan Green replied.

Tobey Ratnett was on target, for Greyfriars Athletic A as Shaftesbury Crusade Reserves kept up their fine form with a 5-1 away win.

AFC Mangotsfield District Reserves go marching on unbeaten at the Division Three summit.

Wick A this time fell prey to them as Dan Cole, Jordan Powell, Josh Hocking, Joe Alston, Liam Bamford and Aaron Jones divided up the scoring in a 6-2 success at Blackhorse Road.

Sticking tight to Field’s tails in second spot, Hanham Abbotonians had goals from Toby Werrett (2), Levi Morris (2) and Craig Francis in a 5-1 away defeat of struggling Fry Club C , whose Scott James scored.

There’s little stopping unbeaten Oldland Abbotonians Colts right now, as Mike Farley’s pair and Dominic Parish, Harry Poole, George Child, Aldo Marku and Sam Noble strikes eased them to a 7-3 success over Seymour United A at Sir Bernard Lovell School.

Longwell Green Sports B , a place above Oldland in third, returned to winning ways through Ethan Platts’ double and Sam Baker and Jacob Leworthy goals in a 4-1 away defeat of Thornbury Town A .

Alex Collier and Josh Johns notched for AFC Grace but had to settle for a point from a 2-2 Hempton Lane stalemate with Crosscourt United .

Adam Grinter and Mike Alvis goals for Hanham Athletic Vets still couldn’t deny visiting Fishponds Athletic a fourth win of their Division Three campaign by coming away from Vicarage Road 3-2 victors.
